The purpose of this website was to publicise the findings from EC projects related to the Eco-design directive on energy using products (EuP) for street lighting (lot 9), office lighting (lot 8) and domestic lighting (lot 19).

The preparatory study aims to identify and recommend ways to improve the environmental performance of energy using products throughout their lifetime at their design phase based on methodology developed by VHK for the European Commission for Eco-Design of Energy using Products (EuPs). The information provided by the study will be used to prepare for subsequent phases, including undertaking an impact assessment on policy options and to prepare a paper for the consultation of the forum. Those phases are to be carried out by the European Commission.

This study identified:

• Market characteristics for the products
• Relevant environmental aspects of the products and their technical/economical potential for improvement
• Existing relevant legislation
• Self regulation by industry and standards
• Needs for standards to be developed

The study was done in consultation with the registered stakeholders.
